Description
In the Apartment of Freedom, symbolism abounds… the characters emerge from their names… and the Apartment of Freedom from its location… and the events from the angles of their crises, and the Apartment of Freedom becomes a place for a specific location… and the characters are beings without fixed designations, capable of assuming any name, and the events can occur in any time, and the apartment is any country… and despite all this, Al-Qusaibi intended it to be the Apartment of Freedom, whose essence is contained in its title… it is the freedom within whose atmosphere the events unfolded… the freedom of those thirsting for it… to what extent did Al-Qusaibi succeed in liberating them to discover the extent of their understanding of this freedom through their exploitation of it?! And its exploitation of them?! And the Apartment of Freedom… an intellectual space in which Al-Qusaibi moved from love poetry and politics to that rich cultural and artistic climate. He lives alongside the protagonist, who is trying to write a story and belong to the literary world. His observations range from Al-Aqqad’s salon to Naguib Mahfouz’s gatherings, passing through Anis Mansour… a vast horizon of abundant ideas… and a wandering imagination in history, politics, human relationships, spiritual and physical, and everything else… a novelist-poet who weaves events with the sensibility of a poet and the language of a skilled novelist to highlight something, to critique a certain reality… This is Al-Qusaibi as he is… the novelist has crafted a space for introspection.
