Description
This novel works to salvage a crucial part of the memory of Amman’s marginalized communities, a memory on the verge of being lost to oblivion. It offers a glimpse into the city’s landscape from this remote vantage point, revealing what the present cannot. Mohammed Al-Jalous has chosen to chronicle the transgression of these marginalizations in a city poised to leave its innocent childhood behind and transform from a village—a marginalized area in itself—into a sprawling metropolis burdened by its own peripheries. The more it grows, the more its memory weakens, and the more its marginalized spaces wither.
