Description
Pia arrives at the oceanfront for her last vacation before college with her father, his wife, and their daughter, but she carries a heavy secret that weighs on her heart, one she cannot bring herself to reveal. Having grown up with a drug-addicted mother, Pia struggled to graduate high school and earn a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania before her life is turned upside down by this burdensome secret, forcing her to spend the summer with her father. But the transitional moments seem to haunt her, for on Bolivar Island awaits Samson, the enigmatic boy with whom she falls in love. He helps her escape her island, while he himself comes from a past that is difficult to accept.
In this novel, Colleen Hoover presents not just a summer romance, but a portrait of parental influences, fatherly failures, maternal selfishness, and the human struggle to survive against the current.
