Description

From the generous, flowing tail of the *Kamil*, frail bodies emerge—wings as fragile and gaunt as a fly’s. They detach from the mother-form, born of the *Hail*’s design, and take to the open air; beneath the twilight’s ray, they appear like the soaring flight of cranes against the distant horizon. The *Zu’an* swarm begins to coalesce; it plunges into the depths, only to retreat and rise again, twisting in ecstasy as dusk descends. It plays with the twilight’s overflow, merging with the dusk as the dusk merges with it. Then, the space empties, the vast arena falls vacant, and the eye loses the spectacle of their play; a melancholy shadow settles in, and the *Kamil* weeps in sorrow. Yet the *Zu’an* reappear—that fleeting swarm—emerging from the void just as they emerged from the *Hab*, to resume their mysterious game. All of them—caught in the curse of ennui and the whimsy of the play—engage with the *Kamil*, the twilight, and the light. The desert was suffocating; the air within it had long since died, yet the *Zu’an* caught a breath of life and fled upward. A real wind began to blow. Like a mystic possessed by longing, the swarm is cast about, burning with a song of nostalgia heard by no one else; it spins upon itself, and the swarm engages in a nameless skirmish. Fragile wings flash in the twilight like the blades of swords. They rally from the south, joining forces and locking together; the scattered fragments retreat and find peace in intimate union. Yet the drifting begins anew. Hidden breezes blow, a dance for the soldiers; the soldiers scatter. A new madness begins. It traverses the light across two dimensions, then trembles violently; it sways, staggers, and writhes; it spins upon itself, then plummets; then, with a sudden leap, it surges upward—or toward the English language, or to the left. It rushes to caress, flashing seductively, and speaks to the sky in the language of gestures. Yet, when exhaustion becomes its very essence, it chooses dispersion and a return to the homeland of the unseen. It vanished once more. It vanished, and Kamil heard himself sobbing, feeling moisture in his eyes. The moment lingered. He awaited the reappearance of that scattered form, until the *Qarina*—the spiritual double—spoke: “Do you see the prophecy?”
