The Art of War (Chinese: 孫子兵法) is a Chinese military treatise written during the 6th century BC by Sun Tzu. The book, which consists of over 6,000 stanzas and 13 chapters, each devoted to a particular aspect of warfare, has long been considered a comprehensive reference for military strategy and tactics. It has had a profound impact on military planning. Translated in Europe two hundred years ago by the French missionary Amiot, the book played a significant role in influencing Napoleon, the German General Staff, and even the planning of Operation Desert Storm. It has been an inspiration to world leaders such as Mao Zedong. It has been translated into 29 foreign languages. There are more than one Arabic version, the most prominent translators being Samir Al-Khadim with Dar Al-Rihani Printing and Publishing House and Mahmoud Haddad with Dar Al-Quds. The Art of War was a book that America ensured every soldier who went to the Kuwait War on August 4, 1990, carried so they could read it and learn from it a new strategy in war.
