Description

The novel *Above the Mountain and Beneath the Snow: A Novel of the First Minutes of 1990* explores the reality of the civilizational and cultural conflict between East and West. It revolves around a Lebanese journalist who travels to Bulgaria to conduct a journalistic investigation. There, he meets a younger, educated Bulgarian woman who works as a translator, and a romantic relationship develops between them. On New Year’s Eve, they decide to leave the hotel perched atop the mountain and spend the first moments of the new year hiking on Mount Vitosha. However, a snowstorm quickly strikes before they reach their destination, forcing them to spend the night together in an ice-covered forest among snow-covered cypress trees.
