Description
In this work, the reader will not find a story to follow, but rather a book through which Dostoevsky intended to express his thoughts and outlook on life through the negative character of a man whose heart is filled with bitterness and contempt for others and himself.
It has been said that this novel expresses a pessimistic current that characterized the nineteenth century, whose most prominent figures included Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, and Schopenhauer. We see the protagonist attacking theories of morality, utility, self-interest, and the positivist and materialist theories that were prevalent at the time.
