“The title of this symposium and the problem it presents, as you so aptly put it in your language, ‘address,’ have kept me thinking about it for many months. While they have entrusted me with the great honor of the keynote address, I have no part in its invention, nor in the implicit formulation of the issue. ‘Deconstruction and the Possibility of Justice: Linking and combining words, concepts, and things that do not seem to be of the same ilk. It is a connection that dares to challenge order, classification, and hierarchical logic, and in a way operates through similarity, distinction, or opposition.’ A speaker in a bad mood might say that I see no connection, for what rhetoric can possibly contain a practice?” I want to try to talk about all these things separately, or about these categories (“deconstruction,” “possibility,” “justice”), and also about linguistic links (et lade), but certainly not in this order, this classification, or this phrase.
