Gilbert Sinoué (February 18, 1947 – ) is a French novelist of Egyptian origin, specializing in historical fiction. He also writes detective novels. He was born in Cairo, Egypt, to a Christian family of Lebanese descent. He spent much of his time on a boat his father bought from King Farouk, where he met important figures of the time.
He then emigrated with his family to Beirut, where he obtained his baccalaureate.
He emigrated to Paris in 1968 and earned a master’s degree in guitar. He began writing novels at the age of forty and changed his pen name to “Gilbert Sinoué,” inspired by the Egyptian novel “Sinuhe the Egyptian” (or “The Drowned Camel”). He has written several novels, some of which are set in Egypt.
