Description

Does Ghada al-Samman possess letters from Ghassan Kanafani that she hesitated to publish? Does she have lovers and admirers other than Ghassan in her life? Are there love letters and passionate infatuation hidden away in her safes and secret places? In response to these questions, Ghada al-Samman says: “Yes, I have letters from great writers and politicians who are, at their core, writers themselves. I will publish them, and no one will be able to burn or destroy them; they are safe in safekeeping.” These moments of freedom, which allowed us to delve into the depths of Ghada’s eloquent generosity and love, shed light on the secret of her excellence. This book, “The Trial of Love,” is the fifteenth volume in the “Incomplete Works” series, which includes writings by Ghada al-Samman that have not been previously published in her books. It is also the fourth volume of her interviews with fellow writers, following “The Tribe Interrogates the Murdered Woman,” “The Sea Judges a Fish,” and “Loitering Inside a Wound.” This fourth volume of interviews is particularly exceptional. It includes the dialogues that took place with her on the sidelines of the “explosion” of Ghassan Kanafani’s letters, as well as two texts in the handwriting of the martyr Ghassan Kanafani.
