Description

The protagonist of this novel is a young Egyptian-Sudanese man, innocent and devout, who works as a tour guide in Luxor and Aswan.

His greatest dream is to marry a beautiful Nubian girl and begin a happy, peaceful life. However, his tranquil and mundane existence is turned upside down after an encounter with Osama bin Laden in Sudan in the early 1990s.

The novel captivates us with its fast-paced narrative, following the protagonist’s journey from Luxor to the Gulf, then to Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and finally Guantanamo Bay.

Youssef Zeidan’s poetic language allows us to experience a unique human story, where reality and imagination intertwine, and we embark with the protagonist on a journey to uncover the secrets of the soul and the world.
