Description

The abridged Sahih al-Bukhari is distinguished by:

– Imam al-Qurtubi omitted the chains of narrators (isnad), mentioning only the Companion.

– He also abridged the hadiths of Sahih al-Bukhari to less than half their original length. He included 3210 hadiths out of 7563, including repetitions, without omitting any of the hadiths attributed to the Prophet (marfu’) or to the Companions (mawquf).

– He presented the most complete wording of the hadith in the most relevant chapter heading. If he needed to repeat a hadith, he included the part most closely related to the chapter heading and referred to what preceded or will follow it in its complete context.

Regarding the suspended hadiths (mu’allaq):

– He selected those suspended hadiths that provided additional rulings or new meanings, including approximately 600 suspended hadiths out of approximately 1300 in Sahih al-Bukhari.

Regarding the additional benefits:

– He explained unfamiliar terms concisely.

– He included clarifications that explained ambiguities in the text or chain of narrators.

– It clarifies the referent of the pronoun in the chain of narration or the text it presents.

– It reconciles problematic or conflicting hadiths.

– It provides guidance on the various readings.

As for the chapters and headings:

– It omits the headings of obscure chapters that are difficult for the average student to understand.

– It also combines similar headings and the hadiths they contain under a single heading.

If we compare it with al-Zubaydi’s abridgment:

We find that al-Qurtubi’s abridgment is one of the earliest abridgments of al-Bukhari that omits the chains of narration, thus preceding it in this regard, and its abridgment is also highly effective. It contains 3210 hadiths, unlike al-Zubaydi’s abridgment, which is limited to 2205 hadiths.

This is just a glimpse of the many merits of this book. We ask God to make it beneficial.
