They did not question Medusa regarding the details of an architecture devoid of exits—lacking the structural clarity they were accustomed to—nor did Medusa pause them to ask about any deficiencies in the construction relative to her designs. Just once, as he passed by her carrying stone fragments in a tray alongside his fellow bearer Antisthenes, the architect Ethoxy Ethanos asked the Lady of the Cave: ‘What becomes of us if we complete the construction of a city inside your cave, Lady Medusa?’ ‘You shall dwell within it,’ Medusa replied.”
