Description

We Are Masters of Our Genes is the second part of a trilogy on modern biology. The book consists of three parts, each focusing on new developments in genetics. The first part, Epigenetics, explores the mechanisms of gene control, explaining how a single gene can produce thousands of proteins. Consequently, evolution from one organism to another often doesn’t require new genes! The same genes can be manipulated to create the new organism. The second part, Evo-Devo, examines the mechanisms that shape embryonic structure and the mechanisms of evolution. This was previously unknown, and we even considered morphogenesis and many other evolutionary processes to be irreducible. These sciences have explained most of the mysteries of evolution, particularly the Cambrian Explosion. The third part, “CRISPR Science,” explores some of the mechanisms for editing genes, repairing errors, and creating new genes, both within living organisms and in genetic engineering. These mechanisms earned their discoverers the 2021 Nobel Prize in Medicine.
