From behind the barriers of time, Fatima Mernissi opens a window into the past. She captures that past and captures it on film, capturing images and visuals that flow into the reader’s imagination as a viewer and enjoyer. The viewer is transported to the Morocco of yesteryear, wandering through its squares and alleys, listening to the conversations of passersby, knocking on the doors of its palaces and gates, and having them opened for him. He discovers the mysticism of the buildings, their decorations, and their arts. He listens to the conversations to discover the customs and traditions that governed Moroccan society in general, and its women in particular, forming the axis around which the story of Women on the Wings of Dreams revolves.
