Description

In a vast expanse like the desert, and within its focal points (the rock, the abyss) and numerous scattered locations, only a sense of isolation and individuality can flourish. The novel is replete with indications that the characters, through their solitary existence and isolation in the desert, attempt to forge a uterine connection with the land, akin to returning to a temporal-spatial cavern. In other words, the characters have separated from their primal mother, and then, through the narrative, attempt to return to that womb—nature. This return is necessarily a psychological one.
