Some scholars have compiled the forty hadiths on the fundamentals of religion, some on branches, some on jihad, some on asceticism, and some on sermons. All of these are good objectives, may Allah be pleased with those who intend them. I have seen that compiling forty hadiths is more important than all of this, and they are forty hadiths that include all of that, and each hadith is a great foundation of the foundations of religion. Scholars have described it as the basis of Islam, or half of Islam, or a third of it, or something like that.
