Muhammad bin Muhammad al-Hasan al-Hajjuji al-Damnati

Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Hajjuji al-Damnati (1880–1951 CE) was a Moroccan scholar, jurist, and historian. Born and educated in Fez, he later moved to Demnat, where he became affiliated with the Tijaniyya Zawiya and emerged as one of the most prominent sheikhs of the Tijaniyya order in his time. He focused his studies on Islamic religious sciences, Sufism, and the biographies of scholars, leaving behind numerous works and treatises—most notably books profiling figures of the Tijaniyya order and works on the science of *isnad* (chains of transmission). His travelogue recounting his journey to the Holy Lands is considered one of his most significant works; in it, he documented his religious, social, and political observations, while also recording aspects of life in Morocco and the Arab East during the early twentieth century.
