Description
The book “The Desert” by the late Iranian thinker Ali Shariati has been published in Beirut as part of the Intellectual Studies Series issued by the University of Kufa.
The book was translated by the Iraqi researcher Hassan Al-Sarraf and reviewed by researchers Hassan Nazim and Ali Hakim Saleh.
The publisher notes that this edition is unique, as “none of Shariati’s desert texts, which are almost considered among his timeless works, have been translated into Arabic. The Arab reader has only known Shariati through his Islamic and social writings, and this book, ‘The Desert,’ is the first of its kind to be published in Arabic, offering a different perspective on Shariati.”
On the inside cover, the Iranian thinker Mustafa Malekian writes a note expressing his deep appreciation for the book’s unique qualities, stating: “The Desert is one of Ali Shariati’s most famous and enduring works. It is one of the books that has most influenced me, especially during my youth. (…) I still revisit this book from time to time, and I continue to be deeply moved by it and hold it in high esteem.” Translator Hassan Al-Sarraf holds a bachelor’s degree in Arabic Literature and a master’s degree in Political Science. He works as a program coordinator at the UNESCO Chair Office at the University of Kufa.
The Intellectual Studies Series, published by the University of Kufa and printed in Beirut, encompasses a wide range of topics in the humanities and issues of concern to Arab culture.
