Description
Reading Ali Shariati’s ideas directly remains the best way to understand his approach and personality. Hence, translating his works—especially into Arabic—is of paramount importance for grasping aspects of Iranian society, its recent history, and the factors that ignited the Islamic Revolution. This is particularly true for the Arab reader, for whom understanding Iranian reality may be doubly important due to geographical and cultural proximity and the mutual influences between the Arab world and Iran.
In this context, the current book, “Awareness and Deception,” is considered one of Shariati’s most important lectures and writings, expressing a significant portion of his thought. It has garnered widespread acclaim, surpassing the fame of many of his other works. Relatively concise and brief, unlike many of his lengthy and detailed books, it is easy to read and plays a key role in understanding the contours of his reformist project. Of course, however, it does not replace reading his other works to gain a more comprehensive understanding of his ideas and calls for change.
