Description
In light of the rapid social and political transformations taking place in Iraq, cultural identity is emerging as one of the most important pillars preserving the unity and cohesion of society. This study seeks to explore the attitudes of the academic elite towards the cultural identity of Iraqi society, as they are the bearers of awareness and knowledge capable of safeguarding national distinctiveness in the face of the challenges of globalization and cultural fragmentation. Researcher Suha Salem Al-Tai employed a survey methodology, field analysis tools, and scholarly interviews to reveal the nature and depth of the academic elite’s awareness of cultural identity, and the role of academic and media institutions in strengthening or weakening it. The results showed that Iraqi national identity remains strongly present in the minds of academics, and that restoring the concept of a unifying identity and enriching it with culture, arts, and heritage constitutes the most important path towards restoring national memory and strengthening collective belonging.
