The Methodological Question in the Context of Establishing a New Intellectual Paradigm

The research contained in this book revolves around a central intellectual problem: How can we liberate ourselves from dependency and imitation, and achieve independence and critical thinking? What are the logical conditions and methodological requirements for creating our own creative discourse while preserving our discursive independence?

The Moroccan philosopher Taha Abderrahmane answers this twofold question with a central argument that the book’s chapters strive to substantiate: that the foundation of understanding the “methodology of creativity”—which liberates our thought—lies in acquiring the ability to grasp the requirements of three types of methodologies. The first is the “integrative methodology,” characteristic of the Arab-Islamic heritage, which is based on the premise that evaluating this particular heritage is only valid through understanding its distinctive integrative approach. The second is the “pragmatic methodology,” employed in philosophical discourse, which is based on the premise that evaluating philosophical work is only possible through understanding the mechanisms of discourse specific to the philosopher’s language. The third is the “argumentative methodology,” inherent in logical reasoning, which is based on the premise that a logical evaluation of the Islamic heritage and philosophical discourse is only valid through the principles of argumentative logic.
