Description
“The person who has been given wisdom is, in reality, the one who has been given the eye to see things in their entirety, not in parts; and in their sequence, not in their static state!”
Tawfiq al-Hakim recognized the close connection between literature and art; hence, he titled his book with the cherished title “The Art of Literature,” and included within it a collection of thoughts that had crossed his mind about them, among them the two hands of literature: innovation and criticism. Al-Hakim also delves into classical Arabic literature, selecting two of its most eloquent figures, al-Jahiz and al-Ma’arri, revealing to us the secret of their uniqueness. He then takes us on a long journey through various forms of human cultural creativity, illuminating the writer’s perspective on them and the imprints of literature upon them, such as music, painting, cinema, religion, science, and life itself.
