Description

This book does not merely recount the biography of President Yasser Arafat; rather, it presents a complex tableau in which the symbolism of Arafat’s actions intertwines with the essence of the Palestinian cause and the trajectory of the Palestinian people’s journey. It specifically explores the evolution of the Palestinian national anthem—first broadcast by the “Fatah” radio station from Cairo in 1968—as the inaugural voice of the revolution and a symbolic weapon, no less impactful than a bullet. The anthem resonated deeply within the collective consciousness of the people; it was far more than mere words and melody. It manifested as an expression of Arafat’s conscious mind—the voice of a revolution that boldly articulated the core of the Palestinian struggle under the leadership of the Fatah movement, conveyed through courageous lyrics and a melody that pulses with the history of Palestinian art.

The book does not claim to be an exhaustive archive of all revolutionary anthems, nor is it a specialized study of them. Instead, it uses some of the most prominent anthems as living witnesses to a pivotal era in both Palestinian and Arab history—the period following the 1967 defeat. Overcoming that defeat was only possible by restoring the primacy of the rifle and armed struggle—utilizing Kalashnikovs, Degtyaryovs, RPGs, and all the tools of resistance. In doing so, the Palestinians succeeded in reawakening a spirit of confrontation, precisely where the better-equipped Arab armies had failed.
