Description
This book argues that logic points toward the formation of a single democratic state—as an alternative to the current apartheid-like system maintained by Israel. This transition will not come about solely through the efforts of solidarity movements or campaigns advocating for a single state—though these certainly play a role—but rather through the natural resistance of a people to intense oppression, a resistance that ultimately leads to the overthrow of their oppressors. Like all brutal regimes, Israel will fight fiercely to preserve the status quo.
Ironically, it is the violence, shortsightedness, and greed displayed by the Israelis over the years that will inevitably lead to this outcome—an outcome Israel never sought, one that could mark the end of Zionism and the entire Israeli project.
In the following pages, we will examine this process closely, exploring how it has begun despite the exceptional support—not just for Israel itself, but for the very *idea* of Israel. We will also look at how a single democratic state offers the only path for Palestinian citizens to reclaim their usurped rights, regardless of the opposition they face.
We will analyze the nature of the ideology underpinning the State of Israel—Zionism—as well as the impact of Israel’s establishment on the Arab world in which it was planted. We will examine Israel’s firm grip on the Jewish population and the various attempts to forge peace between Israel and the Palestinians, concluding with an account of past and present initiatives for a single democratic state.
