Description

In the introduction to this book, the great thinker Ahmad Amin says: “I wanted to explain in this book the foundations of Islam and the events that befell it, sometimes benefiting it and sometimes harming it. I also wanted to show how it treated other religions during its periods of strength and power, and how others treated it during its periods of weakness and hardship.

It was suggested to me that I give it a name befitting the dawn and early days of Islam, so I thought long and hard and then named it: ‘The Day of Islam,’ because it encompasses Islam, its foundations, and its challenges throughout its various eras up to the present day. Its two main purposes are: First, to understand Islam in its essence and foundations, and how it was. Second, because many Muslim leaders have exerted themselves in explaining the reasons for the Muslims’ weakness, I saw that the best way to understand the reasons for this weakness is to return to history. History reveals to us what happened that caused this weakness, and thus we can pinpoint the true causes, so that those who seek reform can know how to reform it. I ask God to make it as beneficial as its predecessor.”
